Getting Ready

Oil and graphite on Canvas, 50”x40”

We wear so many different faces throughout our lives. We wear them based on what we think we should be, what we want to show others, or just how our days is. Sometimes we wear them so often and so well that we forget who we truly are.

This painting is about that. A woman trying to get ready by deciding which face to put on, trying to figure out who she is going to be for the day, and on a deeper level who she actually is as an individual. She is holding a dice to help her decide, with the dice itself having different faces.

I some time really love showing just the scene without its surrounding, floating in a way within its own space.
